Pebbles and Peace at Gran Canaria's Playa del Aguila

Playa del Aguila beach in south Gran Canaria Playa del Aguila beach in south Gran Canaria

Playa del Aguila is a long way from most people's idea of a south Gran Canaria beach: quiet, pebbly and almost completely local. And that's how its fans want it to stay.

Playa del Aguila beach and little resort of the same name are between San Agustín and Bahia Feliz. You see the east end of the beach from the road, but the best part is tucked away between the sea and the resort.

The main landmark on Playa del Aguila is the amusing sign that states that nudism isn't allowed.  Otherwise, there's just pebbles, sunshine and the sea (and a bit of wind). Go to Playa del Aguila for a relaxing day by the sea with nobody else around. And for lunch.

Pick a terrace table at Restaurante Balcon Canario right on the beach and yards from the sea. The food is good and the atmosphere superb. It's always hard to get back up and return to the beach. You don't have to.

Playa del Aguila is popular with Canarians so it gets busier at weekends and especially during school holidays.
